Telegram Integration

Receive instant error alerts via Telegram bot. Set up a bot, get your chat ID, and start receiving notifications in minutes.

Reaching Telegram from Iran.

Telegram is a service outside Iran and may be unreachable from some networks in Iran. To set it up and to read the alerts you need a connection that can reach Telegram, and deliveries only arrive while api.telegram.org answers — failed deliveries show in the integration's delivery log. If that is a problem for your team, use the Email or Webhook integration instead, or alongside it.

Which channels your project can use is shown on the Trace → Integrations page in Abrova Console.

Create a Telegram Bot#

  1. Open Telegram and search for @BotFather
  2. Send the command: /newbot
  3. Enter a name for your bot (e.g., "AbrovaTrace Alerts")
  4. Enter a username (must end with "bot", e.g., "MyAbrovaTrace_bot")
  5. Copy the Bot Token provided by BotFather

Token format: 1234567890:ABCdefGHIjklMNOpqrsTUVwxyz123456789

Security Note. Keep your bot token secret. Anyone with the token can control your bot.

Get Your Chat ID#

Option A: Personal Chat

  1. Start a conversation with your bot (search by username)
  2. Send any message to the bot
  3. Open this URL in your browser:
text
https://api.telegram.org/bot{YOUR_BOT_TOKEN}/getUpdates

Find your Chat ID in the JSON response under message.chat.id.

Option B: Group Chat

  1. Create a new group or use an existing one
  2. Add your bot to the group
  3. Send a message in the group
  4. Use the same getUpdates URL above

Group Chat IDs are negative numbers (e.g., -1001234567890).

Configure in AbrovaTrace#

  1. In Abrova Console, open Trace → Integrations (integrations belong to the selected project)
  2. Click "Add integration" and choose Telegram (or "Connect" on the Telegram card)
  3. Enter a Name, your Bot token and Chat ID
  4. Click "Save and send test" to save and verify it (or "Save channel")
OptionTypeRequiredDescription
NamestringYesFriendly name (e.g., Ops chat)
Bot tokenstringYesToken from BotFather (1234567890:ABC...)
Chat IDstringYesPersonal or group Chat ID (a number, e.g. -1001234567890), or @channelname

After saving

Managing integrations (add, edit, switch on/off, delete, test) needs the admin or owner role; every role can see them and their delivery log. See Roles & Permissions.

The bot token is never shown again once saved: the form shows it as set. Leave it as it is to keep the saved token, or press Replace to enter a new one.

If you change the Chat ID, enter the bot token again as well — a saved token is never used for a different chat on its own.

Notification Format#

Telegram messages from AbrovaTrace include:

  • 🚨 New Error Detected header
  • Error message in a monospace block
  • Project, environment, occurrence count, first-seen timestamp
  • The first 500 characters of the stack trace
  • A View in Dashboard link

Troubleshooting#

Bot not sending messages?
  • You must start a conversation with the bot first
  • Verify Bot Token is correct
  • Check Chat ID is accurate
  • For groups, ensure bot is added as a member
  • Check the delivery log of the integration: a timeout or connection error means Telegram could not be reached
Chat ID not appearing in getUpdates?
  • Send a message to the bot after creating it
  • Wait a few seconds and refresh the URL
  • For groups, send a message after adding the bot
"Unauthorized" error?
  • Bot Token may be invalid or revoked
  • Create a new token with BotFather using /revoke
  • Edit the integration in Trace → Integrations and press Replace on the bot token
